Children’s Ministry

Frequently Asked Questions

How does one become a teacher or helper in the Children’s Ministry?

Because children are so important to us, the Children’s Ministry has developed the following steps in order to become involved. It is important to note that no one is placed in direct contact with our children until volunteers have gone through the following process:

  1. Fill out an application. Included in this application are questions regarding your commitment to Christ, fellowship habits, and reasons you want to be involved in the Children’s Ministry.
  2. Two character references.
  3. Follow-up letters (which are sent to both references)
  4. Successfully complete the 7-week orientation class (for K–5th grade). These classes are offered quarterly on Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. in classroom 5B
  5. Have your fingerprints taken via LiveScan.
What will my child do during his time in the Children's Ministry?

Learn, have fun, and be safe and secure while you are in the Main Sanctuary. Since children do best when there is consistency, we follow a similar schedule each week. The first fifteen minutes of class is designed to welcome them, and to get them settled in. They work on coloring pages, Scripture memorization, or individual projects. This allows the teacher time to meet new students. During the next fifteen to twenty minutes, children ages K–5th grade meet in the small sanctuary for Worship. After a time of worship, they return to their classrooms, where they continure working on the lesson of the day.

Can I stay with my child?

Yes! Parents are encouraged to stay with their children, especially if the child is having difficulty in adjusting to their new environment.

How are children placed in a class?

Our classrooms are divided by age up to 5 years old, and by grade, beginning with 1st grade. This allows the teachers to more effectively minister to your child and his specific age group. We “promote” children into the next age or grade level on the first Sunday in September.

How are children dismissed from class?

Children remain in class until a parent comes to pick them up. If the parent is in the prayer room or involved in ministering, the child is brought to the Children’s Ministry supply room where the child is cared for by an overseer until the parent is able to pick up the child.

How is a child disciplined if he/she misbehaves?

We will make every effort to be fair and consistent in our discipline of a child. We train all volunteers to look at misbehavior as an opportunity for discipleship. Corporal punishment or harsh words will not be used at any time to correct the child. The teacher will handle problems that arise in the classroom. If the child does not respond to correction the Service Overseer will remove the child from class until the behavior is corrected. If for some reason a child refuses to cooperate, then the child will be taken to Pastor Stef and the parent will be contacted at the end of the service. Please be assured that our goal is to place the child back in class and participating as quickly as we can!

Will my child have the same teacher each week?

Since all of our teachers and helpers are volunteers, it is not possible to guarantee the same teacher every week. However, we do strive to provide consistency for the children by asking for a specified time commitment from the volunteers.

Can I help?
