Are You Doing These 5 Things to Help Build the Kingdom of God?

Mar 28, 2013 | 27 comments

It’s our duty as a Christian and disciple of Jesus to help in building the Holy Kingdom of God. It may sound like a huge task, but it’s easier than you think.

You can help build the Kingdom by following key principles in your home, personal life, workplace, community, and church. That’s what I’m going to share with you today.

1.  Building the Kingdom of God at Home

First, you should build the kingdom at home. You need to become kingdom minded to do this. This happens by renewing your mind.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is good and acceptable and the perfect will of God.” – Romans 12:2

You have to be the godly, kingdom-minded example within your home because wherever you lead, your family will follow.

Being Kingdom minded will lead to Biblical guidance and Kingdom actions.

2.  Building the Kingdom of God in Your Personal Life

Second, you should build the kingdom in your personal life by being a holy example to your friends. This won’t always be easy because sometimes you’ll need to remove some people from your life.

Some people are meant to only be a part of your life for a season. The most important thing is that you need to keep Christ-minded/kingdom-minded people in your immediate circle of friends because they have a huge impact on who you become.

Remember, if you have a fruit basket filled with apples, the rotten apples make the good ones go bad.

3.  Building the Kingdom of God at Work

Third, you are a light for Christ at work and your actions need to reflect that. That doesn’t mean that you have to speak about Christianity or religion at work or force the Bible on people.

However, your co-workers and supervisors should be able to see Christ in you! You should be a shining example of Christ at work and stand out from the rest of the crowd.

It’s not what you say, it’s what you do.  It’s not who you are, it’s Christ within you.

4.  Building the Kingdom of God in Your Community

Fourth, you can build the kingdom in your community. You can do so by meeting a need in the community either directly or indirectly.

One thing you can pray about is creating a non-profit organization to accomplish something that God has placed on your heart.

If that’s not your thing, you can give to a charity or volunteer at a community center in an indirect effort.

No matter which way you choose to meet a community need, do something to improve your environment.  It’s a great way to be a light wherever you are.

5.  Building the Kingdom of God at Church

Fifth, you should build the kingdom at your church. You can create and/or teach classes based on Scripture and biblical principles.

Another idea is that you can become a greeter. By doing so you’ll be sharing your talents with the church as you should find your place within the body of Christ.

You need to take a higher position than being a non-serving member of your church. God has called us all to serve his holy Kingdom in some way.

Key Takeaway

In conclusion, we all have to do our part in building the holy kingdom. There are many areas where this can be done. You can make a difference in someone else’s life.

We are called to be disciples of Jesus which means that we need to bring others to Him. A wise pastor once said, “When you get to heaven, who can you say you helped get there?”

Do you have any ideas on how to build the Kingdom of God?

This is a great article Wendelin 🙂 I really like the idea of building the kingdom in the community and being a light that way. I hadn’t really given it much thought because I always thought of serving in the church. But I think there’s something to be said about being a light in the community and bringing others to Jesus that way.

I want to make a difference in my community and bring people to Christ. I’m just scared of controversy so I want to do it through my actions and help others somehow

Thank very much Wendelin for this inspiring, living and working article. It has inspired me, because there is a new congregation in my village, Moshi, Tanzania where we went for evangelism November 2015. People are poor. Most of them were used to get their living through sale of local made alcohol. Iam praying to God to give them living alternative. I welcome suggestions for this community in order to build the Kingdom of God

You are very welcome Remi. It is wonderful that you are involved in evangelism. You should continue praying to God about an alternative way for the Tanzania community to make a living. For example, they could make and sell clothing…scarves, shirts, hats, etc. I am glad that you are in the process of building the kingdom of God in your community. That is very honorable! May God bless you and Moshi.

Thank you so much for your thoughts on this subject. I asked the question “What can I do for the Kingdom of God”. And your site popped-up. Your five suggestions are so on target. We often think that there should be bigger more grandiose things we should do; when in actuality it should start at home. Much like Acts 1:8 instructs. TGBTG

Hi Wendelin, such a great and inspiring article. I was looking up on what I should do to build the kingdom of God and your article came up. I am blessed to note that you have covered the main areas of surrendering to God in the work of building His Kingdom. God is good always and I pray that God will continue to shower you more with His blessings, wisdom and revelations so you can continue your good work in inspiring others in the Work of God.

This is a great article concerning our responsibility to help build God’s Kingdom. Myself and some of the local pastors in the community have gotten together to come up with a plan of action for reaching the lost. I thank you so much for this article because it serves as confirmation to what God has placed in our hearts.

“Great article! This the way we have been “wired up!” Just as God created and maintains our reality by converting energy to matter, he created the human species to thrive when connected to community. If this is true for those who do not believe, how much more for we, God’s People – The Body of Christ? Today, reach out to another Believer and agree together in prayer. Together, feel the eternally comforting presence of Christ!”

We supposed to function as members of the body by the use of our spiritual gifts (not as a “greeter.” There is no gift of greeter.) Our church system prohibits this. That’s why we make up things like greeters, committees, song leader, worship team, childcare etc. The church functions as a human institution.
